Things To Do In Northern Virginia This Labor Day Weekend 2022

Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day is unofficially considered the end of summer, but if you’re not quite ready to let go of warm weather and sunny skies, celebrating Labor Day by checking out local events can be a great option. I’ve rounded up fun things to do this long weekend around Northern Virginia.

Make sure you don’t miss all the excitement that comes with the end of summer!

The Great Country Farms is back for another year of fun bringing all of your favorite fall activities to the orchard: Wagon rides! Corn mazes! Fresh cider samples!

Celebrate the Apple Picking season with wagon rides to the u-pick apple orchard. The Great Country Farms Apple Festival is a month-long celebration during which you and your family can enjoy live music, marshmallow roasting, and hot cider samples. Kids will have a blast riding on hay wagons that take them through the 12-acre play area and Henway corn maze.

Labor Day Car Show, Fairfax, Sep 5

For the past 23 years, the Labor Day Car Show has showcased the best in classic and muscle cars to the community of Fairfax City. With over 300 cars on display, this family-friendly event allows car enthusiasts to show off their pride and joy while sharing a passion for cars with others who love them just as much.

Admission is free, but donations are encouraged as this is a fundraiser for local charities.

Virginia Scottish Games, Sept. 3–4

For those looking for something a little different for the weekend, Virginia’s annual Scottish Games festival offers visitors an opportunity to celebrate their Scottish heritage in a fun, outdoor setting.

It’s not every day that you get to watch an athlete toss a tree end of the end, don a kilt for a Highland dance, do a whiskey tasting, and watch herding and hunting dogs complete — but this weekend is your chance if you live in Northern Virginia.

The family-friendly event includes a car show, sheep-herding demonstrations, and fun children’s activities.

Tickets are $20 per day or $30 for the weekend. Tickets for kids ages 5 to 12 are $5 on Saturday and they’re free on Sunday. 5089 Old Tavern Rd., The Plains

Watch THE BLOB – a classic horror drive-in favorite

Sometimes you need a movie to get you in the Halloween spirit. So why not watch one that stars Steve McQueen and features quite a bit of blood and a man-eating slime.

Did you know that The Blob just got restored? You can now watch the 1958 classic in 4K resolution.

Tickets start at $11. Reserve your seats now!

Morais Vineyard and Winery

Speaking of Morais Vineyard and Winery, if you are a wine lover like me, this one is for you. This winery is one of my favorites in town. I’ve known the owner and he is a Portuguese. Their family been making wine for over a hundred years, so believe me when I say, it’s one of the best wine you’ll ever taste.

They offer a wide variety of wines you can enjoy. The process of selecting a wine can be as hard as selecting an outfit for special occasions. Here’s one of the best I can recommend, the Cherry  Wine, my favorite of all!

100% sour cherries make this Portuguese-style dessert wine also known as Ginjinha; enjoy with dark chocolate to unlock even more depth of flavor.

More details on their website.
